Week 2. MKTG 3349 - Importance of Keywords

 

    When searching for something, consumers use specific words or phrases, known as keywords. These keywords can also be long-tail phrases. Therefore, organizations should prioritize using the right keywords to appear as the first link on a search engine results page. Most consumers, including myself, do not have the time to look through all the results, so they tend to focus on the first three pages. By providing relevant content that includes the right keywords, organizations can increase their chances of getting noticed by potential customers. Keywords are extremely beneficial as they make a business site look much more trustworthy, help connect to the right audience, and bring in more traffic. (Williams, 2023)

    Companies can choose the right keywords by conducting research, using synonyms, and utilizing generators to provide similar statements related to the products they sell. SEMrush is an excellent option for researching keywords because it is free or you can upgrade to a subscription for deep keyword research and metrics on performance. Google Keyword Planner is another option that also gives great suggestions on keywords and provides metrics on keywords chosen. 

    Overall it is more important to provide the best keywords and good content; often many individuals make the error of using too many keywords. Overusing keywords, can impact your site negatively and result in your site not showing up on the first pages, and can make your page look untrustworthy.
